History

December 1977 - Our first day of trading was December 4th 1977, when our original Villiers Street showroom in the heart of Sunderland town centre opened. Founded by brothers Philip and Stephen Smith, both born and bred in Sunderland, at opening we employed just three members of staff and were called Town Centre Garage Ltd.

January 1985 - Citroen revamped its logo from the blue and yellow design, to the refreshed red and white look.

1986 - As the business continued to grow we moved from our original Villiers Street location to a larger site at Roker, which was home to our dealership for 14 years.

2000 - Expanding further, we relocated to our current home on Ferryboat Lane, Sunderland, and opened our purpose-built, state-of-the-art showroom with easy access from all over the North East, just off the A19.

2009 - Citroen marked its 90th Birthday, and we were proud to hold celebrations in our showroom.

March 2017 - As the business began to diversify, we rebranded to Town Centre Automobiles with a new logo and trading name.

December 2017- In 2017 we celebrated our 40th Anniversary. Here’s to the next 40 years!
